Prophetic Prayer: Prayer For My Son
Father,
We come to you today to pray for our sons. We know that you know exactly what it’s like to raise a boy, and we love that you have a heart that is compassionate to our cause. Thank you for choosing us to raise boys.
We pray for wisdom over our sons. We ask that you will equip them to make good choices, and that they will grow in wisdom and favor with God and men. We pray that You will give them the gift of discernment, that they will be empowered to spot the enemy quickly. We ask that they will be able to tell the right path from the wrong, and that you will always keep their spiritual eyes wide open so that when they are faced with a difficult choice, they always take the means of escape You provide for them.
We pray that when they sin, they will be caught. And that when they’re caught, that they come to a place of repentance quickly. We ask that they will always be willing to obey right away, all the way, and with the right attitude.
While we’re talking about attitude, we pray for a strong work ethic in our sons. We pray that they will find their identity in Jesus, and out of that identity, that their life’s work will flow with strength and dignity out of their heavenly position. We pray that they never get so caught up in “manhood” that they forget that “sonship” is the most important quality to You, and that it’s the quality that will serve them the most in life.
We pray against fear, anxiety, worry, and panic. We pray Joshua 1:9 over their lives: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” We pray for ordered steps in their lives, and for Your Heavenly protection over them. We also pray that they will see themselves as protectors of women, even if it requires that they protect women from themselves sometimes.
We pray for sexual purity in their lives. We pray against the trap of pornography, that when they come across it or are tempted to look at it, that they will feel your conviction deep within their spirit and that they will be disciplined enough to stop. We pray for their future wives, that they will be women of noble character. That right now, at this moment, you will go before these young women who will be future members of our family, my new daughter. I ask that she would become a God-fearing woman who is protected by You, who makes wise choices, and values purity; and that we ourselves would be setting the best example for our sons of what a Godly woman looks like.
We lay their future family before you, and pray that they will become excellent husbands and fathers. Lord, when it is time for us to let them go, we pray that we can. When it’s time for another woman, his wife, to take him to the next level, that we as mothers will be like Mary and ponder more in our hearts while stifling our own mouths.
Lord, we declare one word over their lives: Surrender. We pray that they will surrender to You completely, wholly, and with joy. We pray that they will fall in love with Your Word, and that they will change the world and make it better with Your help. We ask that they will learn to stay calm and collected when their temper flares and that You will assist them by the power of Your Spirit to stay out of unnecessary conflict when it arises.
We pray that they will be men after Your heart, Jesus. That they will be faithful men. Loyal men. Men of good repute: honest, truthful, and forthright. Teach them not to mince words. Let their yes be yes, and their no be no.
Above all, Lord, thank you for blessing us with these sons. Selfishly, we pray that they will always love us as much as they do now, and that our relationship as mother and son will continue to grow in a holy and God-honoring way.
Lord, we bless these children, young and old, in the precious name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
Amen.
My friend, prayer works, and I encourage you to continue praying over your son. Pray in the Spirit on all occasions and with all kinds of requests. The Lord hears your prayers!
